Weekends are always busy and popular times, as that is when the lessons stop! (Not that lessons at All Hallows aren’t fun and informative). At the weekend, we look to provide a careful balance of free time and planned activities for our children. It is important that our children stay entertained and happy, but also that they learn to entertain themselves and grow socially. Balance, as in all aspects of life, is the key.
On a Saturday morning all of our boarding children take part in our Saturday Enrichment Programme Following a busy afternoon of sporting fixtures, the children are usually a little tired so Saturday evenings tend to be relaxing. In the winter, this means that the boarders cosy up in front of the open fire in St Bede’s and indulge in lots of food and a good DVD! In the summer, the children like to make the most of the school campus and relax in the swimming pool, ride their bikes around the cycle track or simply enjoy the later, lighter evenings with their friends.
Sunday mornings give scope for spending time around the house and campus and for a big breakfast. Children can catch up on emails home, play tennis, go for a swim or simply play with friends in the common room. On a Sunday afternoon, a trip or in-house activity is always planned. These vary from season to season according to the weather. We regularly ask the children which trips they enjoy the most and make an effort to keep these in the annual calendar. On a Sunday Morning our boarders all attend Mass in Wells, where members of the local community also join us. Following this all of the children take part in the ancient, but very important, art of letter writing, before organising themselves for the week ahead.
