All Hallows' acclaimed Forest School is Premier South West Training Centre

Driven by the belief that learning is enhanced when fuelled by a spirit of adventure, All Hallows pioneered the Forest School concept becoming the first prep school in the UK to be awarded Forest School status 8 years ago. Our wonderful outdoor environs are ideally located in Somerset close to Bath, Bristol, Wells and Frome and offer a fantastic base for training. Facilities include open air classrooms, pizza ovens, outdoor kitchens, fire-pits, water pumps and a Saxon Roundhouse. All of our courses are approved and recognised by Archimedes – the regulatory body for Forest School.

Our courses will be led by Charlotte Lucas a passionate enthusiast for all things outdoor, Charlotte is a fully qualified Primary Years teacher and Forest School practitioner. She oversees a fully integrated Forest School curriculum at All Hallows and has recently opened Welton Freerangers – A Forest School Nursery.

Level 1 - Introduction to Forest School

The course is aimed at: Individuals with little or no experience of working in the outdoors.

Course information: This course aims to build knowledge and confidence in the safe use of equipment and tools. All Hallows staff will introduce basic woodland skills, and individuals will be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the flora and fauna in a woodland area. The course will allow participants to look at using the outdoor environment as a tool to facilitate different learning styles and to develop personal skills such as confidence and self-esteem.

Course Duration: 3 days

Portfolio requirements: Portfolio Completion will take place during the course and will need to be handed in on the last day.

Course cost : £405 per person (inc. VAT)

Level 3 - Forest School Leader

The course is aimed at: Individuals who have a minimum Level 2 qualification in Youth Work, Child Care, teaching OR relevant experience in working with children.

Course Information: This course is an opportunity to explore to a higher level, different approach to using the outdoor environment in a Forest School setting and is for those who and wish to coordinate, manage and lead Forest School Sessions with children, young people or adults.

You will investigate how best to design and run a Forest School programme and look at how to approach and apply it safely and effectively.

The course content of this qualification is based on up-to-date research surrounding aspects of
~ Child development
~ Personal development
~ Neuro-science
~ Accelerated Learning
~ Woodland conservation and recreation
~ Innovative and therapeutic theory in the outdoors
~ Risk assessments to enable safe outdoor play and education.

Taught Units
Unit 1: Forest School Practical Skills and Woodland Management.
Unit 2: Learning and Development at Forest School.
Unit 3: Establishing and Delivery of a Forest School Programme.

Before actively running programmes you will be required to hold:

ITC First Aid for Forest Schools Practitioners Qualification
Clean CRB reference
These can all be organised through Archimedes.

A Forest School Practitioner will enable children to: Experience achievement, complete challenging tasks, develop relationships and act as positive role models, provide supported learning, problem-solving, working in teams or independently, developing self-awareness, self-esteem and building confidence.

Course Duration

• Initial training week consisting of 5 consecutive days of training.
• Portfolio work - candidates take away their portfolio to work on (for about 6 months)
• Assessment Week- Consisting of 5 consecutive days of assessment. Dates for these will be confirmed for 2013.
• You must return your completed portfolio to us within 3 months from the date of your assessment week. After this you will be charged £100.00 re-registration fee. Please return your portfolio by recorded or special delivery remembering to include a copy of your first aid certificate and your CRB check.
• Cancellations of the Assessment or First Aid sections of this course are also subject to cancellation fees. A £50.00 re booking fee will apply for any courses cancelled within 10 working days of course start date.
