This summer the city of Wells in Somerset will be home to a giant flock of sixty, magnificently-decorated swan sculptures to celebrate England’s smallest city and commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The giant 5ft swan sculptures, each of which represents a year of the Queen’s 60 year reign, will be on public display in an art trail around Wells and the surrounding Somerset area from June to September 2012. This exciting public art event will draw thousands of visitors to the city, increase revenue for local businesses and bring a smile to the face of residents and visitors of all ages!
At the end of the summer, the giant flock will be sold at the ‘Swansong’ charity auction. All net profits from the Swans of Wells 2012 event will be donated to local charities. All Hallows is delighted to be the proud ‘sponsor’ of one of the swans. Local Artist, Fiona Campbell, who works closely with the children on various projects as our ‘Artist in Residence’ will be overseeing the design, with some input from the children of course! Her designs are exciting and our swan will ‘take shape’ on site at All Hallows over the coming weeks.
