It has been another busy term in the musical department. The Autumn Concert was a delightful mix of classical and contemporary pieces with a large number of children taking part, much to the delight of the also large audience! The Solo Showcase concerts continue to provide a fantastic opportunity for those children taking individual music lessons to showcase their learning and very clear talents in an informal atmosphere.
The Chapel Choir went to Prior Park College in October to sing Mass in the lovely Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows. The first impression the choristers gained was just how ‘big’ the acoustic was in those ancient soaring spaces! They also quickly found that this enhanced their singing experience. Mr Robertson (Director of Music at Prior Park) played for much of the service, but graciously allowed Mr Redman – who was ready to pull out all the stops! – to play the Voluntary at the end, much to the delight of the choristers who accompanied him. The sound made by the choristers was first class and a real credit to their commitment this term. Particular mention must be made of the Year Five choristers who had only been singing in the Chapel Choir for five weeks and to Lucy Pughe-Morgan and Tom Williams who sang solo verses in the Psalm. The whole trip was made possible by the always willing accompaniment of Mr Renouf and Mrs Moulton – many thanks to all concerned! The Choir sang very well and have already been invited back next October.
