Governors & Staff

Alastair joined the All Hallows Board in May 2022. His background is in senior roles in Schools. Most recently he was the Headmaster at Ballard School, New Milton, until his retirement in 2018. He has been a member of the Monkton Combe governing board since 2018.

Prior to that, he was Principal at Hebron School, India, catering primarily for “Christian worker” children in Asia, the Gulf and Africa. Alastair has also been Deputy Head at Dean Close, Cheltenham, and a Housemaster and Head of History at Glenalmond College, Perth. He is currently General Secretary of TISCA, the independent schools Christian alliance.

In addition to teaching History and RS, Alastair has coached games, principally hockey. He is also a keen golfer. He is married to Rosalyn, who previously taught at Clarendon and Haynes Park, and they have three married children and six grandchildren.

A member of the Chair of the All Hallows School Committee, All Hallows Lead Safeguarding Governor. Also Member of the Monkton Education Committee, and Monkton Lead Safeguarding Governor.

Melanie Eyles joined the board of Governors in November 2015. A past parent of two children who attended All Hallows, she is a firm supporter of the school and all that it stands for.

Melanie studied French after leaving school in 1980 at The Institute of Touraine in Tour, after which she stayed on, living in France and working for The American Council for International Studies taking students and adults across Europe on Academic trips specialising in History of Art and Architecture.

She returned to London in 1985 to work in the Commercial and Residential Property markets in London until she moved to Somerset with her family in 1992. She set up The Curtain Exchange in Bath, along with her business partner in 1998 and has been in the retail sector ever since.

Melanie has a keen interest in the future of the school, she recognises the value of good teaching and inspiration given to all the pupils and would very much like to give something back to the school where her children were extremely happy.

Tracey Cotterell set up and ran Southill Nursery from 1998 to 2007 which won awards for both child care and management. She has been a pioneer of Forest School education, including at All Hallows from 2007 to 2010. Since then she has completed her PGCE and an MA in Education at Bath Spa University. From 2011 to March 2013 Tracey worked as a teacher in EYFS and as the numeracy lead and Achievement for All Champion at Yeo Moor Primary School. Presently she is working at Badock’s Wood Primary School and Children’s Centre in Bristol as the Assistant Head.

Justin is a consultant with a special interest in diseases of the Head and Neck and Skin at Charing Cross Hospital, London, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London.

He was educated at Downside School and qualified in London. He trained initially as an ENT surgeon before switching to diagnostic pathology.

He is past president of a national research society, past chairman of the northwest London skin cancer working group, is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and is a non-executive director.

He is married with 3 children, all of whom attended All Hallows school.

Julian has a background in international business working mainly in the payments sector. His particular area of expertise has been in the setting up and development of new businesses in different countries. He has recently retired and is enjoying more time for family including his young grandchildren, sailing and walking.

Julian is particularly interested in the potential for commercial enterprise to support charitable activities and is a Non-Executive Director of a Christian not for profit company providing logistics to assist with disaster relief in Southern Africa, self-funded by regional commercial transport activities in the tourism, medical and utilities sectors.

Julian was educated at Malvern College in Worcestershire and went on to study Sociology at Bristol University. After graduating in 1991 he started his career as a Senior Sales Executive selling advertising space in Magazine Publishing. From that platform he moved into the Advertising Agency world eventually working as a Media Planning Strategist on the Unilever Account. In 1999 he and his wife decided to take a sabbatical and travelled around the world for 12 months before returning to England and moving back to Bristol. Whilst in Bristol he changed career into the world of property and took a Diploma in Residential Property Management. He now owns and manages a portfolio of residential properties in The Midlands. In his spare time, he loves to cook, he plays tennis and believing it is never too late to learn has recently taken an A-Level in Photography. He is married with two children, both of whom went to All Hallows from Reception to Year 8 and left with many happy memories!

A governor of Monkton Combe since 2011, Rosie’s children attended the Monkton Family of Schools in 1994, At the time of her appointment, she had been working for the local Church and had been involved with the work of refurbishing Church buildings.

Now a governor of All Hallows and Monkton, Rosie regards it as a privilege to help enhance the settings of both Somerset schools, and to try and combine the heritage we have with the right facilities for generations to come.
