Sport | Games & Physical Education
At All Hallows, we celebrate a rich tradition of sporting success within a unique ‘Sport for All’ framework. Sport is a cornerstone of the British Independent Education tradition, and at All Hallows, it remains a priority for every pupil.
We believe that physical exercise and competition have a profound and lasting impact on young people. Not only is sport a positive outlet for their energy, it also fosters team work, self-confidence, perseverance and commitment in children.
We want our pupils to experience an inclusive, enjoyable and challenging PE and Games curriculum during their time with us.
"If you asked to be trained in a specific sport the games staff will train you up and give you encouragement! The Sports Staff are very supportive in helping you learn a new sport to the best of your abilities. " All Hallows Pupil, Otis
Sport For All
Whatever a child’s sporting aspirations or ambitions, we will work with them to maximise their potential and perhaps most importantly, their enjoyment. For some this might be regional or national level representation, for others this may be lifelong participation and enjoyment.
As sports coaches at All Hallows we aim to build the fundamental skills of each sport and to encourage group problem solving as well as instinct to think independently. Freedom to play and learn is at the core of everything we do. We do not try to create ‘finished products’, we know that we are just the start of a child’s sporting journey, we are not prescriptive in our approach or exclusive in our manner.
We try to avoid a prescriptive style of teaching at All Hallows within the Games department, we believe that pupils learn best when they are the decision makers and encourage this in increasing measures as they progress through the school.

A Key Aspect of Life at All Hallows
A robust, competitive schedule of Games and PE sessions are integrated into the curriculum from Nursery through to Year 8. As children progress, the competitive element grows:
- Nursery and Reception: Their sporting journey begins with high-energy PE sessions led by specialist teachers. We focus on building confidence in the water with swimming lessons multiple times a week, alongside weekly dance sessions to develop rhythm and poise, and weekly tennis sessions with specialist coaching company, SSTennis.
- Year 1 and 2: Pupils spend multiple sessions each week with our specialist coaching staff, utilising our generous facilities to master the fundamentals. From coordination and foundational team game skills to the focus of yoga, the emphasis is on growth, variety, and a growing love for sport.
- Year 3 and Above: Pupils immerse themselves in an extensive weekday and Saturday fixture programme, competing against the premier independent schools in the South-West and on a national stage through IAPS and County Tournaments.
- The whole community: Sport is our ultimate community builder. Events like Inter-House Cross Country, Sporting Superstars, and Sports Day bring pupils, staff, and parents together to celebrate every child’s effort and achievement.
Our fixture programme is a social cornerstone of school life. We warmly invite parents to join us pitchside to support the teams and celebrate our pupils' progress in the fresh Somerset air.
"At All Hallows, we do a lot of sports compared to my school in France and the school has lots of space to play these sports. Competing in matches at different schools and meeting many people has been lots of fun!" - All Hallows Boarder, Sixtine
Opportunities Throughout The School Day!
As part of the All Hallows Curriculum, children engage in traditional team sports; Hockey, Netball, Rugby, and Cricket three to four times a week, taking part in both local and National Independent School Fixture Circuits allowing pupils to compete across the South-West and further afield.
PE and Outdoor Education sessions are built into our curriculum each week for all pupils from the Nursery to Year 8.
Elsewhere, sporting development continues long after the final whistle of the school day. We provide a dual pathway of elite peripatetic coaching and diverse after-school clubs to ensure every child can pursue their passions.
- Professional Peripatetic Lessons
We offer an exceptional range of extra-curricular coaching delivered by specialist professionals selected for their expertise and track record. These sessions allow for deeper technical development in a focused environment. Currently, pupils can access individual or small-group coaching in Tennis, Cricket, Swimming, Dance and Ballet.
