House Music Event Update from Mr Gwilliam: A Blast from the 80s!

The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and excitement as All Hallows Day unfolded, this year, coinciding with a heavily anticipated House Music Event. This year’s House Music event took us on a nostalgic journey back to the 80s, a time of iconic tunes and electric vibes.
The day kicked off in the chapel, where pupils gathered for the much-anticipated drawing of song choices and the order of performances. It was a unique twist as names were plucked from a hat, Harry-Potter-esque style, adding an element of surprise and anticipation to the proceedings.
Here’s a rundown of the fantastic performances:
- Batcombe set the stage on fire as they opened the show with “Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club.
- Cranmore followed with a spirited rendition of “Our House” by Madness, showcasing their musical prowess.
- Downhead infused energy into the event with a lively performance of “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel.
- Wanstrow added a touch of nostalgia with “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles, rounding off the performances.
Pupils then regrouped with their respective houses for two hours of intense rehearsal, practice, and line learning. The stakes were high, with judging criteria encompassing Singing, Choreography, and Overall Effort—requiring everyone, including the teachers, to give it their absolute best.
As the clock struck midday, the much-anticipated performances began. Each house presented a unique twist to their chosen tracks, ranging from altered lyrics to impressive solos and standout choreography. The decision for the overall winner was an arduous one, given the exceptional quality of each performance.
Fortunately, we had the expertise of Mr. Will Stainton, Head of Performing Arts at King’s Bruton, to guide us through the evaluation process. After careful consideration and a drumroll that echoed through the hall, the results were unveiled:
In 4th Place, earning 50 house points, was Wanstrow.
Securing 3rd Place with an impressive 100 House Points was Batcombe.
Taking the well-deserved 2nd Place with 150 House Points was Downhead.
And clinching the top spot with an astounding 200 House Points was Cranmore!
Congratulations to all the houses for their outstanding performances, the event was an incredibly uplifting one! Until next year, let the melodies and memories linger!
